I cross the road while it exhales
into silence and send a little rock
clicking out before me.
In the new quiet, freed bark
sounds its way through seven
branches. Past trees the scratch
and sigh, of the high jet.
Then the crow’s forgotten tongue
full of ministry and jargon and
the bright sound of breath
as the traffic, like a liquid fills
the gap I left.
